St. Luke's Church, Countess Wear
The Mission Community of Topsham and Countess Wear unites the two parishes of St. Margaret's and St. Luke's. St. Luke's Church has a friendly congregation who worship during services through song, prayer, and readings. They welcome Christians from all walks of life into their church family with services held each week within the church.
Before 1838, the closest church to Countess Wear was St. Margaret's Church in Topsham. In 1837, construction was underway to create a Chapel of Ease, under the parent church of St. Margaret's. The Chapel later became a parish church in 1844 with Countess Wear becoming its own parish.
Each week during the Sunday service, St. Luke's church runs a Sunday School for children up to the age of 12 years old. In the Sunday School the children listen together to a story with related activities afterwards to help them form a true understanding to what they have heard.
The church works with the local community to provide events within the church throughout each month. In addition to Morning Prayer and Holy Communion they offer art activities, as well as fitness events, including yoga and pilates sessions. The church also hosts regular coffee mornings for both the congregation and community where local people can get to know one another.
St. Luke's offers pastoral care to members of the congregation, visitors and any newcomers when in times of need, including for families with young children, couples preparing for marriage and bereaved individuals.
